Positions in 2026 are very limited and offered positions will depend on the applicant’s availability, FORM RESPONSE, ATTITuDE IN CLASSES and suitability for this special leadership role.
Students must be available to attending training sessions/meetings. These are held on Saturday afternoons throughout the year.

Introducing, DanceStep or Dance Student Teacher Education Program! DanceStep, a 6 level Student Teacher Education Program, builds on this philosophy and provides a progressive and formalised process including both practical and theoretical components.
At Bom Funk Dance Studio we are a registered affiliate studio and member of the DanceStep program. Offered in partnership with studio teachers, DanceStep empowers students to take care of others and guides them to be leaders and role models.
The program covers assistant teaching skills such as behaviour management, different learning needs and styles, Safe Dance Principles and Anatomy to name just a few. These concepts are broken down to be taught in a sequential and age appropriate way. Whether students are considering a career in dance teaching or otherwise, the DanceStep program is a great preparation for many aspects of life.
With the inclusion of DanceStep at Bom Funk, our young dancers have a framework where they can contribute to the community in a positive way. Past students of the DanceStep program have experienced increased levels of confidence and have learnt patience, empathy, communication skills and how to take initiative in different situations.
As affiliate members of the DanceStep program, it is wonderful for us to be able to provide this opportunity for our dancers to flourish not only as young people, but to also watch them grow into competent and confident assistant teachers and student leaders.
Student Leaders will be required:
To be at least 12 years old
To assist in at least one dance class per week (20hrs required to progress to the next level - usually 1 level per year, however more is encouraged)
To work through the components in the workbook
To attend compulsory training sessions held approx 2 times/term on Saturdays 1pm - 2pm (schedule is posted in Band once you have been accepted)
To uphold the values of the Bom Funk and positively promote themselves and the studio at all times
To attend and assist their class backstage during performances. Student Leaders may or may not be asked to perform onstage with their class, pending whether the teacher deems it necessary
To arrive to your scheduled class/es approx 10 minutes before commencement, in uniform & prepared with your workbook + anything else that may be needed depending on what stage of the program you are up to.
To wear Bom Funk uniform when assisting and present yourself professionally as you are now a role model to each class that you student teach in. This means correct uniform and footwear.
Student leaders will be asked to do a range of activities depending on the level they are up to. This could be helping comfort or settle students, getting drink bottles, toilet runs (entering the toilets with the child in strictly prohibited, in this case a teacher will be of assistance), recording moments for social media, all the way to assisting with warm ups, small routines and explaining steps to allow students to gain knowledge in explaining how the body work. Student leaders will report to their supervisor teacher and Miss Shekiralea if there is something they are concerned about, uncomfortable doing or need further explanation.
~All Student leaders must start at Level One - older students are likely to progress quicker through the material.
~ NEW Level Five and Six is for DanceSteppers that are seeking to transition to Junior Teachers but we do not guarantee paid dance teaching work at the completion of this program.
~All student leaders must be enrolled members of Bom Funk Dance Studio attending classes usually in the style they assist.

5,6,7,8 DANCE is an innovative school dance program developed by highly experienced professional dancer, dance educator and school teacher Kym Degenhart. The program offers tuition to schools for the following learning experiences:
Learn performance routines in a chosen style for class assessment, competitions, school events or experience performing in a professional theatre setting in one of Bom Funk’s shows
Learn & practice technique in a chosen style
Engage students with all-male, all-female or mixed classes
Workshop creative ideas & approaches
Assistance with creative response tasks
Run Dance games/ Disco night/ Party hosts
Get fit & have fun in our Bomfit Dance fitness program

We can provide individual instructors or a team of instructors to meet your needs.

Performances and entertainment for demonstrations, workshops, choreography, discos and event management.
5,6,7,8 DANCE can provide dance experiences and ongoing programs tailored to suit the Australian Curriculum.
In addition to the overarching aims of the Australian Curriculum: The Arts, dance knowledge, understanding and skills ensure that, individually and collaboratively, students develop:

~Choreographic and performance skills and appreciation of their own and others’ dances
~Aesthetic, artistic and cultural understanding of dance in past and contemporary contexts as choreographers, performers and audiences

Bom Funk's Street 2 Stage program is designed to provide connection, guidance & support for boys in Dance. The sessions are FREE for all enrolled Bom Funk male dancers aged from 6years+ to attend. JAPAN & USA!!
OCT 2027 - JAPAN TOUR (8 days or 10 days package)
Join Bom Funk Dance Studio in October 2027 for another unforgettable dance tour across Japan where dancers will train, perform, and explore Japan’s vibrant dance culture!
Highlights:
Workshops at Premier Dance Studios: Take dance workshops, learning from some of Japan's top instructors. Dancers will explore various styles, push their boundaries, and experience the rich, vibrant dance culture unique to Japan.
Performance Opportunities: Dancers will perform at Fuji-Q Highland and a minimum of two additional locations, including a visit to a Japanese dance high school for a cultural exchange. Performances at DisneySea & Universal Studios are not guaranteed (lottery based).
Immersive Cultural Dance Experiences: Experience the contrast between Japan’s traditional performing arts and its vibrant modern pop culture through professional shows, from centuries-old dance traditions to the colourful, playful world of ‘Kawaii Culture’!
Additional Experiences:
Beyond dance, this trip includes highlights of Japanese culture and leisure. We will experience thrilling attractions at Tokyo DisneySea, and there’s plenty of free time built in so you can explore other places of interest such as TeamLab Planets, shopping areas, temples, and more.
This tour combines professional development with unforgettable experiences, ensuring dancers leave with new skills, inspiration, and cherished memories. Perfectly balanced with private guides, expert coordination, and the support of Bom Funk staff, this dance-focused journey will be both empowering and exhilarating. Eligibility to Attend
Dancers must be in Years 6 or above in 2027* are eligible to attend if they meet one of the following criteria:
Accepted into the 2027 Performance Squad or,
Attend 3 or more dance classes per week. Classes must include at least one of the following styles: jazz, ballet or hip hop.
An audition may be required, depending on numbers and interest.or,
Are members of High Kix and/or Tap Kix.
Families of eligible dancers are also welcome to attend. We recommend a ratio of 1 dancer and 1 parent travelling per family as rooms are arranged as twin share. Triple & quad share rooms are difficult to obtain in Japan. Single rooms incur an additional cost.
Siblings under 7 years of age are not recommended for this tour.
*Younger dancers may be accepted on request and pending numbers.
Age Requirements for Supervision
Dancers under 16 years must be accompanied by an adult family member.
Dancers aged 16–17 years may be accompanied by a nominated adult chaperone.
APRIL 2028 – USA TOUR (10 days)
Join Bom Funk Dance Studio in April 2028 for Stars and Magic, an unforgettable dance adventure in California! Dancers will train at world-renowned studios, perform at some of the USA’s most iconic entertainment destinations, and experience the magic of Hollywood and Disneyland.
Highlights:
Workshops with Industry Professionals: Train at renowned studios including Debbie Allen Dance Academy, Millennium Dance Complex and Playground LA, with opportunities to learn from leading dance professionals.
Exciting Performance Opportunities: Take to the stage at Universal Studios, Knott’s Berry Farm and Disneyland, including the unforgettable opportunity to perform in the Dance the Magic Parade at Disneyland.
Behind-the-Scenes Dance Experiences: Enjoy exclusive dancer experiences, including backstage rehearsals and workshops, professional photoshoot and a VIP dancer luncheon at Disneyland.
Hollywood and LA Sightseeing: Explore Hollywood Boulevard, Beverly Hills, celebrity homes, Santa Monica Pier and Venice Beach.
Additional Experiences:
Beyond dance, this adventure includes plenty of opportunities to experience California’s famous attractions. Enjoy a four-day Disney Park Hopper Pass, a day at Universal Studios, and a visit to Knott’s Berry Farm, along with shopping, sightseeing and free time to explore with family and friends.

Families of eligible dancers are also welcome to attend. Siblings of any age are welcome. Rooms can be configured to suit different family sizes.

Our tours are subject to minimum numbers in order to proceed. There will be a capped number of performers for Japan and an audition may be requested before approval for either tour, so places are not guaranteed. All tours are run by professional travel agents. JSQUAD - AUSTRALIA
Bom Funk Dance Studio's J Squad Australian team toured to perform in Hong Kong & Macau in April 2016. They had a lot of fun performing at Stanley Markets, Ocean Park, Disneyland & then just about anywhere else in Hong Kong & Macau that they could!

2013 – USA
In 2013, Bom Funk Dance Studio embarked on its first overseas tour, travelling to the United States of America. Students performed at Disneyland, Universal Studios and on Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles, and attended workshops at some of the best dance studios in America.
2016 – Hong Kong & Macau
In April 2016, Bom Funk's J Squad Australia travelled to Hong Kong and Macau. Students performed at Hong Kong Disneyland, Ocean Park, Stanley Markets and even created an unofficial flash mob performance at Victoria Harbour! They also attended dance workshops and enjoyed a private backstage tour of the internationally acclaimed House of Dancing Water show in Macau.
2019 – Paris & London
In 2019, Bom Funk embarked on a European adventure to Paris and London. Students performed under the Eiffel Tower, FIAP and Disneyland Paris, as well as Victoria Embankment Gardens in London.
They experienced world-class entertainment, including Crazy Horse, Moulin Rouge, Lido, Wicked and Les Misérables. Students also participated in cancan and contemporary workshops in Paris, hip hop, jazz and musical theatre workshops with cast members from Wicked at Pineapple Dance Studios in London, and enjoyed an exclusive backstage tour of Les Misérables.
2025 – Japan
In 2025, Bom Funk dancers headed to Japan for another incredible international performance experience, visiting Tokyo, Mount Fuji and Osaka.
Highlights included performances at Nakano City Hall, Fuji-Q Highland theme park and the Australian Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, on a day that attracted 240,000 visitors.
The tour brought together 34 dancers aged 12–27, with a total travelling group of 64 dancers, families and supporters. Alongside their performances, dancers experienced Japanese culture, explored DisneySea and Universal Studios and created unforgettable memories together.

From the bright lights of Hollywood to the streets of Hong Kong, the iconic landmarks of Europe and the excitement of Japan, Bom Funk's international tours have provided dancers with incredible opportunities to perform, learn and experience the world.
These adventures have become a much-loved Bom Funk tradition, with overseas tours generally taking place every few years to allow families time to plan, save and fundraise.
