Positions in 2025 are very limited and offered positions will depend on the applicant’s availability, FORM RESPONSE, ATTITuDE IN CLASSES and suitability for this special leadership role.
Students must be available to attending training sessions/meetings. These are held on Saturday afternoons throughout the year.

Introducing, DanceStep or Dance Student Teacher Education Program! DanceStep, a 6 level Student Teacher Education Program, builds on this philosophy and provides a progressive and formalised process including both practical and theoretical components.
At Bom Funk Dance Studio we are a registered affiliate studio and member of the DanceStep program. Offered in partnership with studio teachers, DanceStep empowers students to take care of others and guides them to be leaders and role models.
The program covers assistant teaching skills such as behaviour management, different learning needs and styles, Safe Dance Principles and Anatomy to name just a few. These concepts are broken down to be taught in a sequential and age appropriate way. Whether students are considering a career in dance teaching or otherwise, the DanceStep program is a great preparation for many aspects of life.
With the inclusion of DanceStep at Bom Funk, our young dancers have a framework where they can contribute to the community in a positive way. Past students of the DanceStep program have experienced increased levels of confidence and have learnt patience, empathy, communication skills and how to take initiative in different situations.
As affiliate members of the DanceStep program, it is wonderful for us to be able to provide this opportunity for our dancers to flourish not only as young people, but to also watch them grow into competent and confident assistant teachers and student leaders.
Student Leaders will be required:
To be at least 12 years old
To assist in at least one dance class per week (20hrs required to progress to the next level - usually 1 level per year, however more is encouraged)
To work through the components in the workbook
To attend compulsory training sessions held approx 2 times/term on Saturdays 1pm - 2pm (schedule is posted in Band once you have been accepted)
To uphold the values of the Bom Funk and positively promote themselves and the studio at all times
To attend and assist their class backstage during performances. Student Leaders may or may not be asked to perform onstage with their class, pending whether the teacher deems it necessary
To arrive to your scheduled class/es approx 10 minutes before commencement, in uniform & prepared with your workbook + anything else that may be needed depending on what stage of the program you are up to.
To wear Bom Funk uniform when assisting and present yourself professionally as you are now a role model to each class that you student teach in. This means correct uniform and footwear.
Student leaders will be asked to do a range of activities depending on the level they are up to. This could be helping comfort or settle students, getting drink bottles, toilet runs (entering the toilets with the child in strictly prohibited, in this case a teacher will be of assistance), recording moments for social media, all the way to assisting with warm ups, small routines and explaining steps to allow students to gain knowledge in explaining how the body work. Student leaders will report to their supervisor teacher and Miss Shekiralea if there is something they are concerned about, uncomfortable doing or need further explanation.
~All Student leaders must start at Level One - older students are likely to progress quicker through the material.
~ NEW Level Five and Six is for DanceSteppers that are seeking to transition to Junior Teachers but we do not guarantee paid dance teaching work at the completion of this program.
~All student leaders must be enrolled members of Bom Funk Dance Studio attending classes usually in the style they assist.

Step into the Limelight - Senior Dance Ensemble, 2019
5,6,7,8 DANCE is an innovative school dance program developed by highly experienced professional dancer, dance educator and school teacher Kym Degenhart. The program offers tuition to schools for the following learning experiences:
Learn performance routines in a chosen style for class assessment, competitions, school events or experience performing in a professional theatre setting in one of Bom Funk’s shows
Learn & practice technique in a chosen style
Engage students with all-male, all-female or mixed classes
Workshop creative ideas & approaches
Assistance with creative response tasks
Run Dance games/ Disco night/ Party hosts
Get fit & have fun in our Bomfit Dance fitness program

Our instructors are trained to work with school students across all ages and ability groups.
We can provide individual instructors or a team of instructors to meet your needs.
Male and female instructors are available.
We offer specialist boys only and girls only programs as well as combined classes and programs.
Performances and entertainment for demonstrations, workshops, choreography, discos and event management.
5,6,7,8 DANCE can provide dance experiences and ongoing programs tailored to suit the Australian Curriculum.
In addition to the overarching aims of the Australian Curriculum: The Arts, dance knowledge, understanding and skills ensure that, individually and collaboratively, students develop:
~Body awareness and technical and expressive skills to communicate through movement confidently, creatively and intelligently
~Choreographic and performance skills and appreciation of their own and others’ dances
~Aesthetic, artistic and cultural understanding of dance in past and contemporary contexts as choreographers, performers and audiences

Bom Funk's Street 2 Stage program is designed to provide connection, guidance & support for boys in Dance. The sessions are FREE for all enrolled Bom Funk male dancers aged from 6years+ to attend. will be representing Australia & touring to
JAPAN!!
Join Bom Funk Dance Studio in October 2025 for an unforgettable dance tour across Tokyo and Osaka, where dancers will train, perform, and explore Japan's vibrant dance culture!
Highlights:
- Workshops at Premier Dance Studios: Take dance workshops in studios in Tokyo and Osaka, learning from some of Japan's top instructors. Dancers will explore various styles, push their boundaries, and experience the rich, vibrant dance culture unique to Japan.
-Performance Opportunities: Pending approval, dancers may have the incredible chance to perform at iconic venues like Disney Sea* and Sanrio Puroland* (Hello Kitty land) in Tokyo and Universal Studios* and the World Expo 2025* in Osaka - offering an international stage for students to shine. *Should these applications be unsuccessful other performance opportunities will be arranged in replacement. Disney Sea performances are based on a lottery system.
- Immersive Cultural Dance Experiences: Discover traditional Japanese dance and performing arts firsthand through exclusive professional shows, such as the famous Takarazuka Revue, broadening dancers' perspectives and connecting them to Japan’s rich artistic history.
Additional Experiences:
Beyond dance, this trip includes highlights of Japanese culture and leisure. We will explore the cutting-edge art at TeamLab Planets, experience thrilling attractions at Tokyo Disney Sea, and embrace Osaka’s vibrant scene with a visit to Universal Studios Japan and a full day at the World Expo 2025.

Eligibility to Attend:
Performance Squad Members
- Dancers accepted into the 2025 Performance Squad (ages 8 and up) are invited, along with their families.
High Kix and Tap Kix Members
- Dancers in High Kix and/or Tap Kix are invited to attend.
Additional Eligible Dancers
- Dancers aged 8 and older who are not in the Performance Squad but attend 3+ classes per week may audition for a spot on the tour.
Age Requirements for Supervision
Dancers under 16 years must be accompanied by an adult family member.
Dancers aged 16-17 years may be accompanied by a nominated adult chaperone.

Initial Deposit - $1,000 (bookings will be made when deposit has been received)
Interim payment - $2,000, 28 February 2025
Final Tour Payment - 3 months prior to departure
Tour is subject to minimum numbers in order to proceed. There will be a capped number of performers so places are not guaranteed. Bom Funk does not manage any tour payments - these are all through our tour company. All prices and experiences are not confirmed until deposits are made.

Bom Funk Dance Studio's J Squad Australian team toured to perform in Hong Kong & Macau in April 2016. They had a lot of fun performing at Stanley Markets, Ocean Park, Disneyland & then just about anywhere else in Hong Kong & Macau that they could!

Bom Funk Dance Studio's J Squad Australian team toured to perform in Hong Kong & Macau in April 2016. They had a lot of fun performing at Stanley Markets, Ocean Park, Disneyland & then just about anywhere else in Hong Kong & Macau that they could!
In 2013, Bom Funk Dance Studio embarked on its first overseas tour travelling to the United States of America. Students performed at Disneyland, Universal Studios and on Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles and attended workshops at some of the best Dance studios in America.
In 2016, the studio took J Squad, Australia to Hong Kong where they performed at Hong Kong Disneyland, Ocean Park, Stanley Markets and a flash mob on Victoria Harbour. Students also attend workshops and a private backstage tour of International Dance show, House of Dancing Water in Macau.
In 2019, Bom Funk embarked on a European adventure to Paris & London. Students performed shows at the Eiffel Tower, at FIAP and at Paris Disneyland and at the Victoria Embankment Gardens in London. They watched International shows & musicals including The Crazy Horse, Moulin Rouge, Lido, Wicked, Les Miserables & more! They attended cancan and contemporary workshops in Paris, hip hop and jazz at Pineapple studios and musical theatre workshops with the cast & crew of Wicked and Les Miserables in London.
On all accounts, for all those who attended, memories and experiences from these tours will last a lifetime.
This success of these tours have started a Bom Funk tradition to travel overseas every 2 or 3 years (allowing time to save and fundraise in between). Keep an eye out for our next big adventure!!
