BOM FUNK ATTIRE

Dress Code:

Students must attend classes in suitable attire. Wearing suitable attire in class is important for student safety as it ensures the teacher can clearly see how students are working, and whether the correct muscles are being used. Correct dancewear allows the teachers to assess how well the students are implementing the technique being taught, problems with alignment, and other important aspects of dance training. It is also important to layer up when dancing to avoid injury. Wear suitable clothes that can be peeled away as you warm up and can be placed back on after dance to keep your muscles warm. This does not however mean that baggy jumpers are acceptable to wear in ballet class – ballet wraps or tight long sleeved clothing is recommended for classes that require the teacher to see body alignment.

We understand that different dancers will feel comfortable in different dance wear so we offer a range of options and price points for families.

We ask students to wear the prescribed base uniform to all classes which can be purchased through dance stores and department stores. Dancers can layer Bom Funk branded dance wear onto these uniform basics. Plain studio colours red and royal blue can also be added. Bom Funk uniform can be purchased directly through our online store or at the Front Desk at Queanbeyan. Only approved footwear can be used to protect our specialised dance floors.

Students sitting exams must wear prescribed uniform as per exam requirements. See www.bomfunk.com.au/exams for more details.

See below a list of accepted attire for each class style.

Additional dress code requirements:

  • Students should wear their hair tightly secured and styled away from the face; a neat bun, braid or high ponytail is recommended. Long hair must be pulled back and up off the neck and face.

  • No dangling, chunky jewellery or watches /Fitbits are to be worn in class for safety reasons.

  • Ballet students in our Primary & Senior Academy (school years 1-12) are required to wear tights or ballet socks and a leotard to class with hair tied into a bun. A ballet skirt may be added. If studio hair accessories are provided to tie hair up, the cost of each item will be added to accounts.

  • No denim or non-stretch fabrics should be worn in class.

  • No school uniforms to be worn in class.

  • Students should carry their dancewear, shoes, and other belongings in a dance bag. Please print your child’s name on the bag as well as on all of its contents.

  • Dancewear is to be kept in good repair and laundered on a regular basis.

  • Dance shoes should never be worn outside.

  • Cheer students must not wear their white shoes outside and should change into their shoes at the start of each class. This is because they will be working on cheer/acro mats and need to keep these mats clean and free of anything that can be dragged in on shoes worn outside.

  • Students are expected to observe good personal hygiene habits. Deodorant may be required for students. Please respect those with asthma and spray outside or away from others.
